Glowing Skin Is Always In

I’d never gone a day without wearing makeup. I would wear it to the gym, the beach, quick trips to the grocery store – everywhere.  Beneath the makeup I was someone who was uncomfortable with the hyperpigmentation (sun spots, acne marks, and blemishes) on my face.

I’ve always tried to take care of my skin and sought the best dermatologists. For years, I saw Dr. Horwitz (one of the best) at his office penthouse in Aventura. He knew exactly how to treat my acne prone skin and prescribed products to prevent the scarring aftermath of a breakout. My skin was improving and I avoided breakouts altogether. Sadly, Dr. Horwitz passed away, and it was back to the drawing board to find the best dermatologist and beauty expert who could help reduce my hyperpigmentation and give me the glowing skin that I’ve always wanted.

After trying several doctors in the area, a friend referred me to Dr. Cynthia Golomb, aka “The Queen of Skincare.” She took one look at my face and said, “You have melasma, and here’s how we’re going to treat it!” Melasma is a type of hyperpigmentation that most people have never heard of – I certainly never heard of it before. Melasma appears in the form of discoloration on the skin and is exacerbated by exposure to the sun.

Self-care is a divine responsibility

TreatmentPlan
Hydroquinone is the gold standard for treating hyperpigmentation. It’s a skin lightening cream that effectively removes dark spots and acne scars while limiting our skin from creating an excess amount of melanin – too much melanin causes dark spots.

Skin Care Routine

Daily Regimen:
Ogagi Nu-Derm Foam Gel Cleanser: I wash my face with this in the morning and at night.

Obagi Nu-Derm Clear Rx: Prescription Hydroquinone 4% Skin Bleaching and Correcting Cream. I use this in the morning and night after I use the cleanser. This product enhances and evens out skin tone, and makes the skin soft and radiant.

Obagi Nu Derm Blender Rx: Prescription Hydroquinone 4% (night time only). Skin Lightner and Blending cream that is used together with Retin-A. This product lightens skin hyperpigmentation and prevents new spots from forming.

Veltin: Retin-A/Tretinoin. I blend this with the Obaji Hydroquinone Blender at night time. This product by itself is considered to be the fountain of youth as it’s used to treat anti-aging, skin discoloration, and acne.

Aczone:I use this as spot treatment if a breakout occurs. It works like magic.

No makeup! No filter! ?

I began this regimen towards the end of January, and my skin has cleared up tremendously. While I’m in love with the results thus far, the process wasn’t glamourous. Retin-A will make your skin peel like a snake. The peeling is common when you first begin using the medication, but it was torture for a few days.

I’m so happy I with my skincare routine. I rarely wear makeup now, the only time I wear foundation is when I’m at work or out on the town. Other than that, you’ll catch me strolling around makeup free and loving it!

You know you love me!?
XOXO,
Shani
