Almost everything will work again if you unplug it, including you.” – Anne Lamott

I think we can all agree that 2018 was Epic, and by that, I mean it was a series of epic events in our lives – some good and some bad, that created change and took us off autopilot. While I embraced the much-needed change, as the year came to an end and 2019 began, I realized I needed respite from the everyday hustle and bustle that comes with livin’ la vida Miami; I needed a break from social media; and most important, I needed relief from my own damn self!

The typical lunch with the girls, spin class, and shopping, wasn’t going to suffice this time – this time I felt the need to go solo, to hibernate, and to heal.

“There’s no Wifi in Lapis, but we promise you’ll find a better connection…”

I decided to unplug and spend a few days at Lapis, the Spa at Fontainebleau. And I know what you’re thinking: “um, you decided to hibernate in Miami Beach?!?” Yes!  It’s a completely different experience from partying at LIV and having dinner at Michael Mina and Hakkasan. Once I walked into Lapis, I felt an energy shift – I entered into an oasis where it was clearly noted, “Unplug. No cell phones or electronic devices allowed.”

Path to Relaxation: Silence is Golden
Shh! Imagine a space where silence is not only valued, but mandatory. I’ll admit it, I look at my cell phone the moment I wake up to right before I go to bed. Both my personal and work emails are connected to my iPhone, I communicate mostly through text messaging, and I check Instagram while I’m on the toilet. I never realized the effects my noisy electronic world had on my state of mind and wellbeing until I felt the need to fast from it all. Silence is Golden was the first room I laid down in when I began my spa retreat, and for the first time in months, I was able to feel all the feels and enjoy the moment.

Journey to Transformation: Eucalyptus Infusion Steam Room
Sometimes it’s not the body that needs detox, but the mind. I have a bad habit of overthinking to the point where it can become unhealthy rumination.  I find meditating difficult because I can never fully shut down and quiet my mind. However, that all changed when I entered the Eucalyptus Infusion Steam Room – this is a room where you purely detox and detach. My spa attendant recommended 10 minutes in this room and after a few short minutes of sitting in steam, I felt my mind naturally and completely surrender, and I entered into a feeling of absolute stillness and calm – the joy of letting go!

Voyage to Regeneration: Hammam Bath
This is what I came for!!! The perfect bath for cleansing the body and soul. The Hammam is a Turkish Bath ritual that allowed me to relax while luxuriating in a full body bath wearing only a Moroccan face mask with cucumbers. The bath was about 45 minutes and the Dead Sea salt scrub and exfoliation felt like heaven on my skin.

Passage to Wellness: Inner Balance Massage
I’ve been on a spiritual journey for quite some time and there is something to be said about having your Chakras aligned! For me, this massage was perfect as it combined a full body candle oil massage and aligning of the seven chakras. My massage therapist seemed intuitive as she was able to pinpoint the exact areas that needed more nudging.

I spent two full days at Lapis and it was sheer bliss. I emerged with glowing skin and energy full of high vibration and light.  I feel rejuvenated and restored. This experience definitely created a positive shift for me – just as spin class is a part of my weekly routine, so is unplugging!

You know you love me!
XOXO,
SpinSnob
